Sorry y'all, it's been a while. I think I'm finally out of my Penguins depression. Since that loss in game 7, which I predicted as a lock for the Pens... I was wrong, I have heard some crazy people want to trade Malkin. And they honestly believe this is a legitimately good idea. Is this real? How can you not want Sid and Geno on the same team? Are these people huffing paint? I mean I can see under different circumstances like, perhaps if it were a contract year and we knew we couldn't re-sign him. But it's not. We have one of the top five players in hockey under contract and our fans want to trade him because of a sub-par playoff showing. Guess what, no one else played outstanding either. But it's typical, knee-jerk reaction time for all the stupid Yinzer Pittsburghers who have no knowledge of sports. And as soon as something doesn't go the way they want, they think we need to trade someone. Sure the playoffs ended up disappointing, I don't think anyone is going to argue that. Nor will I argue that Malkin played well in the playoffs. But really, trade him? First of all, the Pens would never get anything near Geno's worth in return. And secondly, you just don't trade one of the best players in the world. I mean you would have to not only get a top tier winger, but also a top d-man. I don't think we're going to get a package like Patty Kane and Duncan Keith for him or even Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty from the Kings. If we want a great winger with Sid then maybe we should put Geno on the wing. At least give it a try because poor Jordan Staal has been pigeon-holed as a third line center on a checking line. I'd love to see what he can do as a play-maker instead of being used as a grinder. We can talk about a Malkin trade all we want but it's not going to happen, and it shouldn't happen. Plus it doesn't look like Sid struggled too much without that winger considering he led the league in goals. I have decided the "sniper for Sid" idea is way over-hyped and unnecessary. We should concentrate more on getting a top-two shut down defenseman so guys like Mike Camalleri can't skate free and pepper our net at will. I think we should look into trading someone like Kunitz for a solid d-man and leaving Geno right where he is for now. The guy is a potential Hart Trophy winner and has the ability to lead the league in points, we've seen him do it. So how about we all take a deep breath and quit talking crazy.
huffing paint is actually an under-rated pastime... well i don't think they will trade malkin, but i don't think it is completely crazy to float the idea. IF (and that is a big if) you could get a fair return and maybe someone is willing to overpay for a face for their franchise then I don't think it is crazy. Another thing to consider - gonchar seems to be malkin's babysitter according to reports. if gonchar leaves, and i think he will, where does that leave malkin in terms of motivation, ability to bounce back from tough stretches etc... i don't think the talk is just an over-reaction from this year's playoffs because if that were the case there are plenty of scapegoats just as deserving as malkin. the man is a very good hockey player but his attitude (at least how i perceive it) and on again off again motor make it so he is not untouchable.
