Let me make one thing clear before I get started. I am not a fan of the NBA. I'm from Pittsburgh and we just don't care about basketball very much. I am familiar with the teams and players, I just don't watch the games. But unless you live in a tool shed you are aware that LeBron James is going to tell the world who he is choosing to sign with tonight. I have listened to ESPN radio at work for about 4 straight days and this is all they have talked about. Of course that could be because he is having an hour long special on ESPN to give us ten seconds worth of information. I hate to say this because I like LeBron, but this is one of the most narcissistic things I have seen an athlete do in a long time, and it's not really his style. I don't know who talked him into believing this was a good idea but I really have a feeling he is going to get a serious backlash from this. Let's face it, he's making himself bigger than the game. Granted, it's probably the biggest decision in NBA history, but still. I think it's just too much and he should have handled it another way. As for the decision itself, let me say I do not envy Bron Bron. Sure the dude is going to bag hundreds of millions of dollars, but he is in a no win situation with the media and fans.
If he stays in Cleveland he is going to hear that he is not concerned with winning and that he is afraid of the big city spotlight of New York or Miami. A lot of people still believe he will be a Cav but I just don't see it. They have cornered him with teammates who are average at best and have made absolutely no moves in free agency. Sorry Cleveland, he's out.
If he leaves Cleveland, which is almost assured, he will destroy the city. Believe me, I'm not saying I care, I hate Cleveland. He is literally the only bright spot in that horrible town. But imagine growing up in a town, being an icon in high school, getting drafted by your hometown team, winning two MVPs but no championships, and then having to bail on the people you love. I don't care how much money is involved, it will be hard to go from the most loved person in Ohio to the most hated overnight. But every player plays to win championships and it isn't going to happen where he is now.
If he picks Miami he will hear that he is just trying to piggy-back onto a loaded team just to win a championship. They signed D-Wade and Bosh so everyone will say LeBron didn't think he could win one on his own. Well he's already proven that he can't win one on his own, that's why he's leaving Cleveland. Even with Bosh, Wade, and James there is still no assurance they will win the championship, or even make it to the finals. I think the Lakers still match up better, and perhaps the Celtics and Magic do as well. Wade and James' styles are too similar and Bosh cannot be your only big man. Even with these three superstars, they do not have a center or a point guard. Miami is the sexy choice, but I don't think it's the proper one.
If he goes to the Knicks people will say that he is not concerned with winning a championship. I think the Knicks are a great fit because he can personally resurrect one of the worst teams in the league and at the same time be playing in one of the best markets. If he can make the Knicks a relevant contender in three or four years then I consider that a success. And if he wins a championship or two within five years he can show all the doubters that he single-handedly took a bad team and made them great. Sound like another number 23 to anyone else?
If he goes to "da Bulls" he will fit into a good lineup immediately. They have a legit point guard in Derrick Rose and just picked up Carlos Boozer who may be the most underrated free agent of the off-season. I'll take Boozer over Amare' Stoudemire any day of the week because he does the things to help you win, like rebound and play defense. Amare' may be good for the highlight reel but he doesn't perform in the playoffs and that's a fact. You take those two and add LeBron as a swing man and I think they automatically become a top two or three team in the East. The only thing that may get to him are the constant comparisons to Jordan, but he hears those anyway.
If it were me I would go to either New York or Chicago, most likely Chicago. I just feel the Bulls are the closest team to a cahmpionship with the addition of LeBron. But as far as i have heard the Bulls are barely even an option anymore, so what the hell do I know? He will more than likely be in South Beach by the weekend as a member of the new most overrated team in the league. Believe me if he goes to Miami you are going to see a guy with five or six MVPs and still no championships. And you thought they called him a choker in Cleveland?
bobbo,
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts on "Bron Bron", he is the best all around player in the league hands down...some will argue and say Kobe and yes Kobe does have five rings, but Kobe has been gifted with great teams most of his career unlike Lebron...Besides Bron being better then Kobe(bill), I think his best bet would be to stay in Cleveland...why do you leave? For money...if he leaves hes leaving 30million on the table! To win a championship, Cavs have been in the playoffs the past 4yrs...the Cavs went to the conference semifinals the past 2yrs and the FInals the year before that...theyre right there if you ask me. They are missing that "x-factor/role" player to go along with lebron...you cant say shaq or jamison were the answers both are old and out of there prime...Mo williams hes a good point gaurd but hes not that great/championship type of point gaurd thatll lead a team. If you ask me I think they should polish what they have...if you think about the Cavs they have nobody besides Lebron! Lebron your best bet STAY!
Now some say that Miami is his best bet...I disagree...the heat is wades team...plus I cant see them having enough money to pay wade, bosh, and lebron and those important role players that every championship teams have. Plus there is only one basketball, I dont think its a good fit maybe for a video game but not for lebron...
Knicks...now why would he want to go to New York? For the fame? it doesnt matter where Lebron goes he will be endorsed and be known!
He doesnt want to go to a rebuilding franchise...yes they signed amare but amare cant play D...for christ sake id rather have steve bielecki as my center then amare lol
If he doesnt stay in clevland then his best bet would be chicago...chicago does have the best "team" and he'd fit best with the Bulls...Rose is a beast, one of the top point
guards...Noah is a good defensive center kind of like a varejao but better...deng is a solid wingman not great but solid and the addition of Boozer...then add Lebron thats a good line-up. Prob the favorite to win the east if thats how it all plays out...but one problem if he would decide to go to chicago...Rose contract is coming up along with noah...ur gonna have to pay noah with in the ball park if 10mil a year and rose is prob gonna want max...so how do the bulls find all this money aft signing 2 max deals they dont and this is the reason I think Lebron souldnt go to the Bulls...the flame will be put out quick! In all reality I could give a shit less where he goes...I dont watch the NBA nor do I care for it...id rather watch the buccos lose for the 20th straight year in a row then watch the NBA! So LETS GO BUCS!!! 2012 NL CHAMPS!!!!
I hear what you're saying but you're making my point. All those guys you said are his bum teammates are the same guys they're going to have next year. They haven't done one thing to get better and make him want to stay. I think in Chicago if it came down to it they would pay James and Rose and take their chances without Noah. If you can't have them all then he is definitely the one you let go out of the two. I am not totally against him staying in Cleveland. It may be the best choice, but based on what I have been hearing I do not think he's going to stay there. He has attracted way too much attention to this thing to just say he's gonna play for the Cavs again. And I agree LETS GO BUCS. I watchin them right now and Oswalt has a one-hitter goin in the 8th haha... man we stink!
ReplyDeleteBielec,
ReplyDeleteCavs:
Lebron, knows better than to stay in cleveland. Not saying hes not gonna stay but... look at what they gave him [Mo(average), Shaq(maybe 5 years ago), Antonio(6 out of 10 at best)] If he doesn't stay with cleveland thats their own damn falt. Get Boozer, or at least make a trade for Chris Paul and maybe go over the cap. They make enough for that damn owner up there to spare a few extra million(thanks to lebron). They couldn't give him what he needed cya!
Chicago:
Seems like a great fit doesn't it? With a great core and enough room for 2 max contracts thats where i thought he would go. They got boozer, maybe in responce to them feeling they lost out on lebron or just dangling anouther piece of bait in from of him. My opinion is he would not fit as well as everyone thinks. The main reson being that he and derick rose are the exact same player just a few inches in difference, they both play point guard/ point forward. Rose is not an accomplished passer and likes to score. lebron is a better passer but will rose want to take a deminnished role? Not gonna happen.
New York:
No, he wants to win now not there years from now. Your right bob I am better than Amare, overrated overpaid. Sorry NYC not gonna happen.
MIAMI:
WOW, THIS WILL BE SOMETHING. THREE OF THE TOP 10 PLAYERS IN THE LEAGUE. WHAT MORE DO U NEED. I KNOW THERES ONLY 1 BALL AND THREE HOGS. BUT LOOK AT BOSTON IF IT COULD WORK THERE THAN WHY NOT IN MIAMI? THEY WILL GET PLAYERS TO SIGN FOR THE MIN. TO JOIN THE CUIRCUS AND WADE AND BOSH ALREADY SAID THEY WOULD SIGN FOR LESS THAN THE MAX. WIN HERE LEBRON AND GET ON KOBES LEVEL... THEN BOB WILL HAVE AND ARGUEMENT!
I hear what ur sayin stevie. I mean my head says he's goin to Miami too. At first I thought maybe he wouldn't want to hear that he couldn't win the ring withuot other stars, but for a dude who has been in the league 7 or 8 years, I think he'll take the first one any way he can get it. People can say all they want about how he needed wade and bosh to win it, he'll be polishin his gold. But there is that big risk if he goes to miami and still cant win one that he goes down as a great player who cant win a championship. Maybe he takes three years in Miami, hopes to win a title with them, then worry about goin to New York or something to try to do it on his own. Who knows? He's gonna have doubters no matter where he goes. We'll find out in about two and a half hours.
